Title: Leopard’s Prey
Series: Leopard People bk 6
Author: Christine Feehan
From a tough stint in the armed forces to stalking the unknown as a bayou cop, leopard-shifter Remy Boudreux has been served well by his uncanny gifts. And right now, New Orleans could use a homicide detective like Remy.
A serial killer is loose, snatching victims from the French Quarter with pitiless rage and unnatural efficiency. But something else is drawing Remy into the twilight — a beautiful jazz singer bathed night after night in a flood of blood-red neon.
Sultry, mysterious, and as seductive as her songs, she’s luring Remy deeper into the shadows than he ever imagined. And as their passions swell, his keen instinct for survival will be challenged like never before. By a killer — and by a woman.
Where to start on this review. I was super excited for this book because first it’s Christine Feehan, and she’s one of my auto-buy/crack authors, second because this is one of my favorite shifter series.
What I wasn’t expecting was to not connect with Bijou. I kept waiting for it to happen, as I normally connect with the heroine’s really quick, but not Bijou. I felt bad for her but I never really connected. I wanted a stronger woman for Remy. Granted to survive her life she had to be strong, I also wish there had been more on her mom.
Remy on the other hand was exactly how I expected him to be, especially after Savage Nature. He was bossy, has a temper, is devoted to his family, and his job, and in control at all times. He struggled with the age gap between them, which I’m glad for as I’m not a fan of large age gaps between my heroes and heroines.
I was more invested in the murder mystery in this story, and what was going on with Drake and Saria from Savage Nature then the story between Remy and Bijou, though I loved the interactions with with Remy and his siblings in regards to his actions with Bijou and how he was screwing up. It made me like him even more. Oh and Joshua and Elijah make an appearance as well.
I still love this series, but this book just didn’t do it for me. Then again there have been other books in this series I haven’t loved on the first read but have gone back and read and enjoyed more on the third and fourth read.
I do have to say I’m anxious to see whose book is next. I’m hoping for either Joshua or Elijah or maybe Gage Remy’s brother.
